The Xbox Scorpio has been revealed? Really?

Apparently the Scorpio was shown behind closed doors yesterday. I say ‘apparently’ because it was a closed doors event and I don’t think anything about the event has been revealed to the public.

All we know about it is how OMG powerful it is. Much like the PS4 Pro, this will cause nothing but problems for devs. If they think their entire audience is going to migrate over to the new platform just because they put it out there, they are completely delusional.

Ultimately, we’re seeing the narrative that powerful hardware sells to the test. Sony and Microsoft are desperately trying to one up each other to stay relevant, even introducing a retarded mid gen upgrade to do so… all while the much less powerful Switch sails past the competition.

Make no mistake, the Switch is already vastly outperforming PS4 from a business perspective. Nintendo makes money on every console sold, produces much more affordable games on a much more practical budget, and actually has games people want to play. It says a lot that my least favorite Switch game, Bomberman, is still significantly more fun than something like… say, Knack of Octodad. (Which, by the way, has a superior alternative in the form of Snake Pass!)

People buy games, not hardware. The PS4 was sold on the promise of having games like KHIII and TLG eventually, and I bought my Xbox One to play Scalebound. Having powerful hardware means NOTHING if you have nothing that really uses that hardware in an interesting way.

The only people shitting on the Switch for having ‘poor’ hardware are fucks like MisterMetokur who rely on shitty Crowbcat videos to tell them how to feel about gaming hardware. Meanwhile, on PS4 and Xbox One, there is nothing to play. What is even coming out this year for PS4? Shenmue III? That’s going through severe development issues, although they’re not in the public eye just yet. Spider-man? We know nothing about it. Days Gone? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. GOW? Come on now. All the major indie releases have no real reason to stay off of it, an in fact Damon Baker seems to be doing a lot of great work in getting indies to give games Switch exclusive features. Even something minor like HD Rumble makes the Switch version of games stick out.

And of course, we’re already swamped with great Switch releases. Zelda is great, of course. Lego City has fans, although I admit I’m not too fond of the game personally. Mario Kart launches later this month, alongside Puyo Puyo Tetris. That right there, the games released in the first few months, is better than what you can expect from Playstation and Xbox in the next few years in spite of how allegedly ‘weak’ the Switch hardware is.

I forgot about Spiderman. When the only good thing coming to your console is a remaster of PS1 Mario-likes, then something isn’t right.

Looking forward to today’s direct? I want to see more of Pikmin 3DS, myself. It’s the only 3DS game I’m looking forward to (next to Ever Oasis). Hopefully, Miitopia will be there, too.
